Alderman Fioretti announced the resolution to a gathering of nearly 400 civic leaders and IGO members and friends in attendance at IGO’s 10th Anniversary Tuesday, December 4th at the Chicago Cultural Center.

“We’re honored to have so many members and partners with us to celebrate, and we look forward to expanding to all communities with new offerings. Next year we’ll be implementing peer-to-peer carsharing and continuing to find innovative solutions to create a multimodal transportation system in the Chicago area,” said IGO CEO Sharon Feigon.

IGO’s many accomplishments over the years were lauded at the event at the Cultural Center, including:

• Saving its members as much as $7,500 annually, resulting in cumulative savings over the last ten years of up to $500 million.
• Reducing CO2 emissions from vehicles by over 250,000 metric tons.
• Helping members give up or avoid buying a vehicle altogether, which has resulted in 11,000 fewer private cars on the road and untold savings of infrastructure costs. Seventy-three percent of IGO members report either selling a vehicle or postponing purchase of one as a result of becoming an IGO member.

In addition to being honored by Mayor Emanuel and the City Council, IGO recognized those who were instrumental to its success over the last ten years by presenting awards to:

• Governor Pat Quinn who received the IGO True Believer Award – See video of IGO CEO Sharon Feigon presenting the True Believer Award to Governor Quinn.
• Sidley Austin LLP which was given the Extra Mile Appreciation Award
• Interfaith Housing Development Corporation which was given the Jan Metzger Community Sharing Award
• The Boeing Company and the Chicago Transit Authority each of which received an IGO Innovation Award

Upon being presented with the IGO True Believer Award, Governor Quinn said “I AM a believer…I was present at the creation (of IGO).” Governor Quinn commended IGO for having a positive impact on the local economy over the last ten years, including for creating jobs.

“IGO has proven that addressing climate change can be done in a way that has numerous economic and social benefits. With extreme weather events like Hurricane Sandy, it’s abundantly clear that we have to continue to develop practical ways to reduce CO2 emissions,” said IGO CEO Sharon Feigon.

Over 350 people joined us under the beautiful stained glass dome of Chicago Cultural Center’s GAR Rotunda on Tuesday, December 4th as we celebrated 10 years of IGO CarSharing in Chicago. Attendees noshed on delicious food, drank, mingled with other environmentally conscious residents, and were merry beyond belief while celebrating IGO’s accomplishments over the years! Second Ward Alderman Robert Fioretti presented IGO with a City of Chicago resolution declaring December 4th “IGO CarSharing Day”, and during the presentation portion of the evening, IGO honored various organizations and individuals who have helped make carsharing in Chicago such a success.
